FAQs

General

What is different about Ygnite this year?

The safety of our participants is a top priority for us. As part of the Ygnite organizing team, we recognize that COVID-19 and its increasing number of variants pose threats to safety, despite precautions with mask mandates and vaccinations. We are closely monitoring the situation as mandates and the number of cases change. Ultimately, we will prioritize the safety of Ygnite participants.

Details on mask and testing requirements will be posted here and communicated via email closer to the date.

The early deadline is September 19th, 2022, 11:59PM PDT and the regular deadline is October 3rd, 2022, 11:59PM PDT.

The conference program begins early morning on Friday, January 20, 2023 and ends on Saturday, January 21, 2023. As such, Ygnite provides lodging for Thursday night, Friday night, and Saturday night, and we encourage conference attendees to arrive on Thursday, January 19, 2023.

Registration

When are acceptance notifications being sent out?

We will send out the final acceptance notifications within 2 weeks of the final application deadline.

Is there any consequence if I submit an application, but end up being unable to attend? OR if I registered for the conference, but can no longer attend, what do I do?

While several situations may prevent a participant from attending Ygnite, the registration fee is final and not refundable. However, if you feel uncomfortable joining us, please let us know by December 25th and we will issue a full refund. Please let us know as soon as possible to accommodate other participants. In the case you test positive for COVID-19 72 hours before the conference, we will accommodate a partial refund of the registration fee with valid proof provided to the organizing committee.

Program/Avenues of Participation

How should I prepare for the program session?

Once accepted as a presenter, we will send you an email with details about how to prepare for your presentation. Meanwhile, you can check out the program description on our website to get a general idea of each session.

What sizes of posters are required?

Participants are encouraged to bring printed posters up to 48” w x 36” h.

Can undergraduate students participate as lecture presenters?

Yes, if you have a substantive topic/material to introduce to Ygnite. You are welcome to contact ygnite@ksea.org for guidance on choosing avenues of participation based upon your planned presentation.

Startup

What is the difference between the Venture and Vision pitch competitions?

The Venture Pitch competition is for the participants with an active startup company. The Vision Pitch competition is for the participants who are interested in entrepreneurship and hope to gain pitching experience.

Can I apply for the startup avenue even if I don’t have any experience with startups?

You can participate in the Vision Pitch competition. This particular program is designed to expose participants to entrepreneurship, building business models, and pitching.

Can participants apply as a team and present the same idea or startup plan together?

You can participate as a team, but will need to submit a separate application for each participant. Under the "Avenue of Participation" section (either Venture Showcase or Vision Pitch Competition), please submit the same response if you wish to participate as a team. The maximum number of participants in each team is 3.

I just started raising funds for my startup but do not have any significant investments yet. Should I apply for the Venture Pitch Competition or Vision Pitch Competition?

If you do not have a company or have not raised funds, please apply for the Vision Pitch Competition.
